Yesterday was Simon's birthday. It's hard to believe he's six already! We'll be having a party in a few weeks (we were waiting to see when Gideon would join us), but we wanted to make his actual birthday special too.
So we hung up the birthday flags, got his birthday crown ready with a number six, and made mini cheesecakes for dessert. (Simon has been telling us he wanted a cheesecake for his birthday for months. I'll make a big one for the party, but this way we get to have cheesecake twice :-) He got to open some presents from relatives who are too far away to come to his party, too. He got quite a few books he can read himself, and promptly read "Small Pig" cover to cover right there at the table.

Happy Birthday, Simon! Small Pig was my very favorite book growing up (in Japanese). My mom tells me that she has fond memories of reading it to me, but she doesn't ever want to read it again...
