Trying New Things

Along with trying many new vegetarian recipes, I've been enjoying trying new things in baking as well. Joel got me the King Arthur Flour Whole Grain Baking cookbook for Valentine's Day (it had been on my Amazon wish list for a long time), and so far we've had some great pancakes and muffins. It's a tome of a cookbook, and the recipes so far have been great, but (somewhat oddly) there isn't a single recipe for english muffins or bagels. Not being deterred, I found recipes online for those, and we tried making bagels. While it's not something I plan to do all the time, they weren't actually that hard, and they tasted really good (as evidenced by the lack of pictures of the finished product--they got eaten too quickly). I used mostly whole wheat flour instead of the white flour called for, and they worked just fine. I'll be trying my hand at english muffins soon.

They look like frying doughnuts, but they're really simmering bagels!

Hey - I know that cookbook!

I've never tried making bagels. I did think they were donuts until I read the post. I want to try making donuts, too.
